Investing a little time in your new smile is well worthwhile!
At Straight White Teeth London, we offer patients an excellent method of achieving beautiful, even teeth in a short period of time. Whilst some orthodontic systems can take over a year to work, Dr Nick Simon is able to provide fast acting orthodontics which take on average, just six months to achieve a great looking smile.
But having achieved this new attractive smile, it makes sense to take good care of your teeth in order to gain the maximum benefits. Let’s take a look at some of the basics in today’s blog:
As with all orthodontic procedures; once completed, it is necessary to wear a retainer to prevent your teeth from gradually moving back into the old positions. All the time, money and effort that you have put into your new smile will gradually be wasted if you do not wear one. Our London teeth straightening dentist will offer advice on the wide range of retainers that we have available at our West Ealing dental practice and also how to use them.
Although teeth that are even are generally easier to keep clean than teeth that are crooked and uneven; the importance of a good teeth cleaning regimen should not be underestimated. Without regular brushing, flossing, or inter-dental cleaning, along with regular dental check ups, your teeth are as vulnerable to tooth decay as the next person. You should also pay special attention to your gums as gum disease is a serious threat to your oral health and also considered to affect your general health too.
Make sure that the toothbrush that you are using is no more than three months old and the same applies to an electric toothbrush head. Use small circular motions to clean the teeth and avoid applying too much pressure as ‘scrubbing’ your teeth can damage the enamel. If you have a tendency to this, it may be wise to invest in an electric toothbrush as these often have a pressure sensor which will cause the brush to stop if you press too hard.
Inter-dental cleaning is also very important and something that too few patients do. It is thought that only around one in five of us use dental floss, and, whilst it can be a little tricky to use initially, with a little practive, it is a valuable and worthwhile part of your oral health regimen that should not be ignored.
Once your orthodontic treatment is completed and you are happy with your straight teeth, not only is it important to look after your teeth at home, but also continue with regular dental care under the supervision of an experienced dental professional. We are happy to offer this facility to you, but if you wish to remain with your regular dentist for ongoing treatment, that isn’t a problem.
